Fresnotes, Vol. 1

In honor of this site's namesake, I'd like to formally introduce Fresnotes — a useless, occasional feature that will attempt to list all the times Fresno or the Central Valley is mentioned in pop culture. (Yes, Katy, that may include Modesto.) This idea is stolen from my friend Carrie, who once wanted to pitch the idea to a magazine. (Which magazine, I have no clue. Modern Agriculture?) Our first entry is a no-brainer: A quote from the epic 1986 CBS miniseries "Fresno," starring Carol Burnett as the station-wagon-driving queen of the Kensington raisin dynasty. It costarred Dabney Coleman, Charles Grodin and a young, pre-"Seinfeld" Michael Richards, as well as former Fresno Mayor Dale Doig (who as I recall, looked like an absolute tool in his cameo).

"I was too busy... raising Cain." — Burnett.
