Much thanks to my iPod-wielding roommate GR for introducing our house to The Darkness, a howling pack of British retro-metal gods who invade New York City Friday with a sold-out show at Bowery Ballroom. Unfortunately, my introduction wasn't soon enough. I don't have a ticket. Bastards.
To call them a next-generation Spinal Tap would be selling these guys short. But I do hear a little bit of Cheap Trick, Queensryche, Queen and Dokken. And yeah, that's a good thing. Rolling Stone gives them three stars, but it's the videos that really sold me... fog machines, hundreds of Marshall stacks, blatant pixelated frontman nudity and guitars that double as shotguns. Priceless.
